The Mad March Midget Trial started off well with a
beautiful sunny evening. The usual suspects dodged the numerous roadworks, cones and
deviations, to congregate in the usual place down at Westhaven. Lulled into a false sense
of relaxation with a leisurely drive along Tamaki Drive to Kohi (past numerous boat
ramps!), once we headed inland we soon had to readjust our thinking with a delightfully
devilish definition of what to do at a roundabout.
We also had to watch out for roads on the left and crossroads, and tonight keeping right
was actually left, so it was a relatively slow and careful course, with residents of
Paunui Rd, seeing (and hearing) us all drive past more than once. The crossroads, when we
found it, was a K crossroads, which was not really surprising as a normal crossroads would
have just been a bit too obvious for a "Rob and Barry Trial".
We were very happy to get the trap at the end of the first subsection, which we had missed
in Rob's trial last year. The second section seemed to contain a high number of U turns,
and the most worrying part about this was the odd clonking noise which emanated from the
front left of the BGT after
every one. The joys of owning old cars - "there's always something else to fix".
We finished back on the waterfront at the Der-Metz Bar, although we had to get back home
so it was too late to enjoy the ambience. Definitely better
than McDonalds Rob - must go back there sometime!..
