Over an extended weekend, from March 18th to 21st 2011, 35 intrepid MG'ers, in 17 cars, took to some of the North Island's most feared and least travelled back roads for John Borchard's MaGic Weekend Away. This is their story. Day 1 - Destination Ohakune - Rex Benns Day 2 - Ohakune to Napier over Gentle Annie - Maxine & John Borchard Day 3 - Napier to Rotorua via Lake Waikaremoana - Judy Hindman Day 4 - Homeward Bound - Neil Courtney The four days of travel saw us cover some 1,200-km of glorious backcountry roads. The Gentle Annie now lives up to its literal name and is no longer to be feared. In contrast, the Waikaremoana road still consists of a considerable stretch of loose dusty gravel. But it remains one road in New Zealand that everyone should travel over at least once. When the Government gets around to sealing the whole length it will become a tourist magnet and the character of the road will be changed forever. Various photo credits to Rex
