| Hi all, Hampton Downs - what can we say. A week of trying to be good and ask a favour or two of the big man upstairs sure paid off with a perfect day. Clear skies, a dry track, no wind and warm temperatures. It would not have been possible to ask for anything better. There is plenty to say about the day, but please read elsewhere as other people have provided articles for the magazine. But not to make anyone jealous, a great day, a great track. 35 drivers, 33 MG's. MaGnificent. Special thanks to Paul Walbran and Murray Ralls for running the starting grids and the other helpers who gave their time to make the event a success. Also thanks to those who came out to be nosy and check out what was going on. From the Sporting Committees point of view, and judging by the comments received from other people attending, the concept of a half day really worked, both in terms of providing sufficient track time and also financially. This all bodes well for the MG Race Series we would like to get off the ground. We definitely will look to do something like this again, but not before the New Year as it is doubtful there is any track time available. There were a couple of issues we need to iron out for future events around permits and the committee will be working on these over the coming months. The MGCC is not the only club looking to promote racing as a means of keeping their marque alive. The VCC has been giving consideration to arranging a track day for their own members, but as for MGCC they are not able to underwrite an event themselves financially. We have had some very informal discussion about arranging a combined event, as being involved in a track event with vintage and classic cars does have a lot of appeal. The VCC has approached Hampton Downs and indicatively have been offered the track during Easter next year, with a full weekend to be planned along the lines of the Bruce McLaren Festival weekend. Vintage racing, car displays, trade stands etc. Unfortunately Easter next year will also be the 50th anniversary of the Easter event being part of the MGCC calendar so allegiance will be torn for some. But it all sounds promising so watch this space! But we must have run out of favours as the our sealed motorkhana at Waiuku was held in rather damp weather. This did make for an interesting event, and a wet surface sure helps get the back end of an MG to twitch a little bit easier! We have another event coming up in September, so please see coming events for these details. As the winter months draw to an end we will soon be starting the Midget Trial season again. First off will be a Grade One trial to remove the cobwebs and get the brains back into gear. With the road works around the Westhaven area we will be using different starting locations as determined by the plotters so just keep an eye on the magazine for each coming trial. Well, that is about it for another month. With the AGM over, the Sporting Committee remains pretty much unchanged therefore all going well, it will be another busy year for us planning the many events that keep the calendar full.
