As organisers of the latest Team Waikato run Christmas came early and what a present we got thirty seven cars and the joy of seeing seventy people enjoying themselves over lunch.
The line up at our meeting place was so impressive looking that a fire engine with its sirens wailing slowed briefly for a look and gave us a big toot of approval.
It was really good to see some faces we have not seen for a while. Members like the Fulford’s (John has been busy paddling down a croc infested river in Australia). The Grey’s (Health reasons) and the James’s (Restoring their car since April).
We had planned a long route for the final run of the year so tried to get away as close to time as possible instead of the normal MG time.
The impressive convoy of MG cars headed off towards Cambridge and then out through Bruntwood and on to French Pass road. From here it was into Whitehall road and on to Karapiro road then a left into Buckland Road which is well known because it was designed by Cecil Kimber especial for MG. No just joking it is well known because it was where Lord of the Rings was filmed. You have to admit though it could have been made for MG in mind.
The multi coloured convoy made its way close to Matamata and through Walton, Kiwitahi and into the Morrinsville RSA our lunch venue.
It was reported by some of the members that Louise missed a turn and a few of the others following did just that, they followed and missed the turn also.
When asked why it was Louise’s fault they said because she was the navigator. Colin quickly pointed out, and correctly so, it would have been Paul’s fault because even if Louise had said turn here he wouldn’t have listened to her.
The route was tarseal all the way except a short stretch of dusty road works. Smooth but very dusty but no worries everyone made for the bar and washed the dust down. You can tell the members who had their tops down as they got more dust than the others and unfortunately had to make two or three trips to the bar. I am pleased I drive a soft top.

We were treated to a very nice lunch and it was I am sure enjoyed by all.
We were told later by the Staff they had never seen so many people enjoying themselves and making so much noise. I think that just confirms what a great MG day out it was.
After the meal Dave on the behalf of everyone presented us with a gift which we appreciate very much, two glasses with the MG Team Waikato logo etched on them. Thanks everyone they now have pride of place in our cabinet and will be cherished for many years to come.
We had a few members who were celebrating their birthdays so everyone else sang Happy Birthday to them. Maybe next year we could have Christmas Carols- no I don’t thing so.
Members started making their way home and some diverted down town Morrinsville for coffee before making their way home also, bringing to an end another mighty MG Team Waikato year – ole ole.
Seventy names would take a lot of typing, but you will know if you were there!
