Waiuku Classic Motokana This years unique event is the Sunday drawcard for the Waiuku classic festival. The Motokana commences at 11am in the Lions parking lot in Massey Park. Contestants form two teams and in a complex layout, race from opposite sides of the course, crossing over past each other at the midway point to end together at the finish line. The complexity of the event requires a two car crew, Driver and Navigator, similar to jet boat sprints, with cars required to spin and reverse through sections of the course. Spectators will see all the action and match progress of each matched pair of cars representing the two teams, who at the conclusion of stage 1 (Halftime), compete on the opposite course for stage 2. This is a spectacle not to be missed, details of the course will be posted shortly, competitors please use the Waiuku Flying 50 entry form downloaded from this site. See the Waiuku
Flying 50 web site for more information. See the Flying MGBGT on the home page. |

| The Annual Vineyard
Picnic Run -- Sunday 11 January 2009 |
| Kerr Farm Vineyard (www.kerrfarmwine.co.nz)
is one of the hidden gems in the Kumeu wine region and owners Jaison and Wendy Kerr are
opening up their home and private property to the MG Car Club for the annual vineyard
picnic run. We meet at Western Springs car park in Great North Road (just west of St Lukes Road) at 10am and after the drivers' briefing at 10.15am, we travel to Kumeu via some old forgotten wine trails, as well as new, before arriving at our destination. Here we will be able to line up our cars amongst the vines to make an even more splendid setting for our picnic. As the vineyard's normal tasting room is a small room in the Kerr's re-sited villa, Jasion is hiring a marquee with seating for our hosted wine tasting. He has five wines to taste, made from the adjacent vines. They include a rare Auckland Sauvignon Blanc, an unoaked and oaked Chardonnay, a Pinotage (definitely not like they were 30 years ago) and Cabernet Sauvignon. He has a special liquor license for the day, which means that after the tasting you will be able to purchase Kerr Farm wines either by the glass or by the bottle to accompany your lunch. BYO picnic or try one of Jaison's wood-fired pizzas made in his outdoor oven. In the spirit of picnics of old, be prepared for some fun and games. As this is a Kerr Farm Vineyard day, we would respectfully ask, no BYO wine please. $10 per person (which goes to the vineyard, contributing to the costs of the hosted wine tasting, the marquee and the special liquor licence) plus $5 per car (for the MG Car Club). Bookings to Sue Courtney by clicking HERE, phone 473-5110 or email neilandsue@clear.net.nz The Pre 56 register is supporting this event. |
