MGC Register

The revival of the MGC Register NewZealand has generated great interest from owners and admirers alike. Our mission is to provide a forum for the sharing of information, technical advice and social gatherings for the benefit of MGC owners.

Today the MGC is a much sought after classic which has attracted an almost cult type following. However, the arrival of the "C" in 1967 was quite a different story with the car being greeted by the press and enthusiasts alike with disappointment. Comments such as "lost the Abingdon touch" were seen in road test reports. Not the start any company, especially MG, would have hoped for when launching a new car. This, and other factors, resulted in the total production of around 9,000 cars grinding to a halt after only two years. Much has been written about these cars and a wealth of information is now available on how to improve the performance and handling. They have great touring qualities and, with a few simple changes will provide you with a very driveable classic MG.

As at March 2016 our research shows we have 72 MGCs on the register, with 34 of these (18 roadsters and 16 GTs) having current registrations and on the road. Of the remaining 38, the vast majority of which are GTs, 22 are off the road either under rebuild or in storage, the whereabouts of 11 are unknown, 3 are no longer in New Zealand and 2 have been destroyed.

Of the 72, the factory records show 31 cars (11 roadsters and 20 GTs) were exported new to New Zealand.

With the help of club members and especially the early data received from Brett Robinson of Hamilton we now have records dating back to 1984. This information is being constantly updated and we ask you to please keep us up to date on the details of your car or any others you may know. Please contact Ian Grant or Peter Dunlop if you require any further information or assistance, and we will be pleased to help.
